This phone is very similar to the Samsung Solstice but I would say that it is a step up. While it is a multimedia phone and not a smartphone, one great thing is the fact that Samsung has been trying to bridge the gap. This phone utilizes the same interface (as the Solstice/Impression/Eternity) but much more customizable (they have a widget manager which allows you to choose which widgets you want, as well as being able to customize the main menu). While it does not have all the features of a smartphone (operating system, office applications, etcetera), it is a great alternative to a smartphone (as the data plan for a smartphone is three times as much and this phone can do many things a smartphone can). The phone utilizes the newest version of the TouchWiz, 2.0, which from what I hear, is more responsive (which is pretty shocking as the previous one was very responsive based on my experience with the Samsung Eternity). It also features a great 3.2MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. The default e-mail client includes GMail so you would not have to seperately download the application. It also features AT&T TV which has many live television channels (subscription costs an extra monthly fee). The phone still features the great music player, full HTML browser, youtube, facebook, myspace, instant messaging, and many more. Another great thing is that this phone features a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microUSB charging port instead of the proprietary Samsung ones.
This is a great phone and for the price and cost of the available plans (including data plans), you cannot go wrong.
