If you read the first paragraph on my blog discussing the Wilson 301101, you can learn more about the uses of an antenna. This antenna is similar to the Wilson 301127 in the sense that it is most effective as an internal antenna. While the Wilson 301127 is able to act as an internal antenna in building settings and internal or external antenna in mobile (vehicle) settings, this one is made to be an internal antenna only, in all settings. Therefore, this antenna requires a cell phone amplifier in order to work. If you might recall, the Wilson 811210 SignalBoost amplifier (and the several kits I posted in blogs after that) included a Velcro connector to act as the internal antenna. This is the same connector/internal antenna included with that cell phone booster. Purchasing this product on its own can allow you to turn any wireless amplifier into a direct connection amplifier (or take your direct connection amplifier and insert a universal connector instead of a cell phone specific Wilson Cell Phone Antenna. You may ask yourself, is it possible to use this antenna as a universal connector to an external antenna? The answer is somewhat tricky. This antenna has an RG174 wire with FME female connector while most external antennas I have presented to you use FME female connectors. There is however one option you could consider, purchasing the Wilson 301132 (a mini magnet mount antenna which has an N male connector) and the Wilson 971108 (which is an N female to FME Male connector. I will discuss this product in a future blog, when I get to connectors). I have never tried this option, nor do I know anybody who has. Though I don’t see the purpose in even doing so as I personally would recommend using an amplifier with this product, as the amplifier can improve the signal of the phone or device by up to 50 miles more than just an external antenna. Purchasing the universal Velcro connector/internal antenna on it’s own can allow you to use it with any amplifier and not just the SignalBoost amplifiers they are included with.
